The 2017 BET Awards… Coming June 25

The countdown is officially on to the 2017 BET Awards which premieres in 3 weeks on June 25, 2017 on the BET network at the Microsoft Theater here in Los Angeles. This year’s show will be hosted by funny girl herself, Leslie Jones. This will be Jones’ first time taking the stage to host the epic night. Can we say ‘’No Sweat for her’’ as we know she will be funny as hell even know it’s a tough act. Especially, following the trail of outstanding host like: Mo’Nique, Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Anthony Anderson, and Tracee Ellis Ross just to name a few, but hey don’t sweat it… we know she’ll do well.
As of now we have only a short list of performers who have been revealed so far. From Bruno Mars to Future to Tamar Braxton to Migos and Trey Songz will all headline this year’s show. We are excited to see what they will perform. With all the artists having new music and new albums with an expectation of Tamar Braxton, we kind of know what to expect. Bruno Mars most likely will perform his upcoming new single Versace on the Floor to be released later this June from his November 2016 album 24k Magic. Future, Migos, and Trey Songz have all released albums earlier this year. Therefore, we can expect to hear something of the sort from their albums’ Hndrxx, Culture, and Tremaine the Album respectfully. On the other hand, we most likely will hear new music and a new sound from Tamar Braxton being that she hasn’t released an album or music since October of 2015 with Calling All Lovers.
The awards ceremony even has a good list of presenters from Robin Thede, Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, star of the ABC comedy series Black-ish Yara Shadidi, star of the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: New York Cardi B, creator/co- writer/star of the HBO comedy series Insecure Issa Rae, host of the Comedy Central late night talk show/ news satire The Daily Show Trevor Noah, star of the upcoming film All Eyez on Me Demetrius Shipp Jr., sports anchor for ESPN sports news Sports Center Cari Champion, and the cast of the upcoming film Girls Trip Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett- Smith, and Queen Latifah.
Leading the nominations is the Queen Bey herself Beyoncé with 7 followed by the smooth pimp himself Bruno Mars with 5. Queen Bey and Bruno go head to head for most of their nominations. They both are nominated for Album of the Year, Video of the Year, Coca- Cola Viewers’ Choice Award, and Video Director of the Year. Bruno Mars also is nominated in the category of Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. While, Beyoncé is also nominated for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and in the category of Best Collaboration twice. Once for her song Freedom featuring Kendrick Lamar and once for being featured on DJ Khaled track Shining with her hubby Jay Z.
Lastly, for the Honorary Awards… New Edition receives the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award which we kind of saw coming after their TV film premiered earlier this year in January about their life. Chance the Rapper receives the Humanitarian Award which we also saw coming due to him being a strong activism especially for the city of Chicago. The Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual goes to Chris Brown which is great for him since he has a lot of bad press and low sales lately.
